Aljazira Bank Taps Thunes Network for Faster Global Remittances
Saudi Arabia's Aljazira Bank partners with Thunes to improve remittance speed, transparency, and international reach for its customers.
Aljazira Bank has selected Thunes, a cross-border payments infrastructure provider, to upgrade its global remittance capabilities, the two companies announced in Riyadh on Sept. 28, 2026. The strategic agreement is designed to expand the Saudi bank's international payment coverage while improving transaction speed and transparency for customers sending money abroad.
Thunes operates what it describes as a global payments network connecting financial institutions, mobile wallets, and banks across multiple regions. By integrating with that network, Aljazira Bank aims to offer customers a more reliable and efficient pathway for moving funds internationally — a critical service in Saudi Arabia, which is one of the world's largest sources of outbound remittance flows.

The partnership reflects a broader trend among Gulf Cooperation Council banks to modernize cross-border payment infrastructure amid rising demand from the kingdom's large expatriate workforce. Remittance services have drawn increased competition and regulatory focus as digital payment platforms challenge traditional transfer channels on cost and convenience.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Neither company provided specifics on the number of destination countries to be added or a timeline for full deployment of the upgraded remittance service under the new arrangement.
