Fairfax Crest Opens With 279 Affordable Homes Near County Hub
Lincoln Avenue Communities and Fairfax County's housing authority have opened Fairfax Crest, adding 279 affordable units on government center grounds.
A new affordable housing development has opened on the grounds of the Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax, Virginia, officials announced Monday. Fairfax Crest, developed through a partnership between Lincoln Avenue Communities (LAC) and the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA), delivers 279 affordable homes to one of Northern Virginia's most sought-after and costly jurisdictions.
LAC describes itself as a mission-driven organization, and the project reflects a broader strategy of siting affordable housing near civic infrastructure — in this case, directly adjacent to a major county government campus. Fairfax County officials and partner organizations joined LAC and FCRHA leadership for a formal grand opening ceremony marking the completion of the development.

The opening comes as Northern Virginia continues to face acute housing affordability pressures driven by sustained population growth, limited land availability, and proximity to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan labor market. Developments of this scale on publicly affiliated land represent one approach local governments are increasingly exploring to expand affordable inventory without competing for scarce private parcels.
Fairfax Crest adds a meaningful number of income-restricted units to a county where market-rate rents have risen sharply in recent years. The collaboration between a private mission-driven developer and a public housing authority illustrates a public-private model that housing advocates have championed as a replicable framework for other high-cost jurisdictions.
